Well, as with everyone else on the bleeding edge, I'm going to launch into a re-design of my site replacing the table-based '90s design with a CSS-based '00s design.
The movabletype portion of the site (the weblog) is already driven largely by CSS. It's the rest of the site, built with my creaking table-driven skills, that needs revision.
I'm also contemplating breaking out this weblog as a separate site as I begin to think it is not really appropriate to mix it in with my job-seeking endeavor.
Posted by artandscience at February 26, 2004 08:22 PMResearch A LOT regarding how you want the redesign to look. Then put aside the time to get the bare bones of the structure down (unless you are a CSS guru). I've finally settled on a structure and design, but my tenous link on the finer points of CSS tend to drop away after a good night's sleep (or whenever something else grabs my attention). Painful tinkering is predicted and was experienced on my part.
Good point regarding splitting the site. My URL is on my business cards (and of course my email address) but I do like to get creative and opinionated online. After some deep contemplation I decided that was my web presence and I wasn't going to separate anything...otherwise I would have just opened a 'Blogger' account.
Posted by: Gary at February 26, 2004 08:47 PMWell, I want the redesign to look just like the current site (given that I launched it just two months ago it seems a bit soon for significant changes). So that part of the equation is simple.
I'll probably develop it on my Powerbook first, and then pray that it still works with IE (which, from what I've been reading, is highly doubtful).
As far as splitting the site, the biggest challenge will probably be coming up with an appropriate URL. The obvious ones are already taken (at least in the .com space).
