basic rules of moving
There are some basic rules of moving I've learned over as many moves as I have years:
- Pack the stereo last.
- Unpack the stereo first.
- Get lots of friends to help at both ends.
- Beer makes everyone work harder.
- Pack small boxes heavy, big boxes light.
- Plan for breakage
- Pack all your essentials in one or two boxes and label as such. Carry them with you if necessary to keep them in sight.
- Pack valuables carefully in just a couple of boxes. Pad very well and keep them in sight if at all possible.
- Get an binding estimate "guaranteed not to exceed" if you're using professionals.
- Packing well takes 3-4 times longer than unpacking. Plan for it.
