Liverpool v. Wigan

Woa.. Wigan looked pretty decent today, especially their goalkeeper Chris Kirkland. Excellent reactions. It's a pity that Liverpool disposed of his services as he would have made an excellent backup to Reina I think.

My faith in Yossi Benayoun has definitely been rewarded as he scored another lovely goal in this game. He is definitely someone who can come off the bench and offer the spark of innovation/creativity.

We dominated the game for large stretches but Wigan was resolute. Excellent defending plus excellent goalkeeping meant it took quite a while to break them down. I hope that our success in this game bodes well for the rest of the season.

We really need to be able to consistently beat the teams that we should beat (those outside the top three) if we are to have a hope of winning the League this year. If you look at the last couple of years, the team winning the league lost five (5) and drew (5) of 38 matches in 2006, and lost five (5) and drew (4) in 2005.

So that's our target. We've already drawn three times in seven games and so we can realistically only afford two more draws for the rest of the season. Of course, we were screwed in the Chelsea match but no one is likely to remember that at the end of the season.
