India.. hmm..

I'm giving serious thought to going to India in March. It's high on my list of things to do to see the Taj Mahal and one of my best friends has invited me to visit with him and his family in Delhi.

I've found I can use my miles on Alaska to get a co-share flight on Air Asiana (must investigate them before committing to a long flight) and so this has a prospect of being a very cheap trip as I believe food costs and transport in India to be cheap comparatively.

It's likely to be very warm at that time of year but it's long before the monsoon and summer seasons.

How exciting. A weekend or two in Goa beckons as well..

Delayed gratification

I'm not much into American football anymore. It was one thing when I could go to Niners games as a season ticket holder every other weekend but I just have a hard time getting enthused about the Seahawks. Probably 'cause they broke my heart too many times when I was a teenager.

I was just back in Baltimore visiting friends for a lovely wedding and watched a Ravens game with them (against my Niners). Good tight game between two poorly-quarterbacked teams. Pah!

I really live for football - English style that is. This Christmas period sees all the teams play four or so games in a ten-day stretch - quite a pace. Somehow there are always critical games and upsets and many years title contenders are either born or exposed as fakes in this period.

So I'm up at my folks' farm for ten out of the twelve days and they have none of the three football channels I subscribe to. Fortunately, I have a DVR at home and I'll have something like 30 games recorded to watch when I get home. It takes the greatest discipline to not read the scores online.

Liverpool is doing well so far, thrashing one contender for the top of the league (Portsmouth) and edging by the worst team in the league (Derby). Today's game was against Manchester City (much improved with Sven at the helm) and the day after New Year's will be a game against Wigan. Win all four and we're back in the hunt to win the league again. Lose even one and it may be all done for the season as we need to pick up points on the top two teams (Man Utd and
Arsenal).

I can hardly wait to get home Wednesday and watch both games.

Terrific Torres

Truly, everyone excelled yesterday as Liverpool kept a clean sheet and put the boot in against Marseilles in their final Champions League group game.

Coming back from the dead, Liverpool won their last three games in fine style, scoring 16 goals to come back into 2nd position in the group and advance into the knockout stages.

Likely opponents are teams from Spain or Italy, like Barcelona, Real Madrid, AC Milan, Sevilla or Inter Milan. Whoever the opponent, they cannot be happy about facing Liverpool on their current form. And it should be a mouth-watering tie though I personally want to meet up with AC Milan again and beat them this time.

In the mean time, we have an equal challenge (though at home) of playing Manchester United this weekend, and then Chelsea during the Christmas break. Thank the Lord for subscriptions to three soccer channels on my DirecTV (and my DVR!).

Revenge of the Who?

Just discovered this lovely rant.

Breathtaking. I have to agree completely with the writer. And I thought I was the only one who hated the second trilogy of Star Wars.
